Montpelier, the home of President James Madison, is located near Orange, Virginia and is a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Oak Grove carried out many projects here, including the replacement of the 1902 copper roof, added when the Du Pont family owned Montpelier.

This neo-classical ‘folly’ was probably designed for James and Dolley Madison by their friend Thomas Jefferson.

The domed roof of Mantpelier had failed and was restored to its original design. Oak Grove Restoration Company undertook this restoration with passion and attention to detail, even utilizing the original method for crafting the wood shingles by hand with a drawknife.

Perhaps the most engaging element of the estate is the 1808 tempietto, or circular columned temple of love, a garden pavilion surmounting a deep, brick-lined icehouse.
